I am a spatial ecologist and conservation biologist specializing in marine movement tracking and species distribution modelling. For my PhD research at the University of Otago in New Zealand, I used animal-borne loggers to obtain location and dive data from yellow-eyed penguins. I employed a variety of home range, modelling, and statistical methods to quantify the interactions between penguins and their marine environment. I am also interested in using spatial and GIS methods to quantify the threats facing penguins and seabirds, with the overall aim to inform marine spatial planning and conservation management decisions. As lead scientist for the largest little penguin colony on mainland New Zealand, I run the newly created research program to mark and track penguins at sea.
