Lenz Historical Reserve and Tautuku Lodge
- Owned and managed by Forest and Bird
- 1 km from coast
- Main Lodge and two smaller cabins available for renting
- Three easy walking tracks from 2-9 km starting from the lodge
- Nature Walk, about an hour circular route
- Long Track, follows old tram line and crosses Fleming river
- Boardwalk Track, branches from the Nature Walk
- Ongoing introduced species trapping
- Water by rainwater tanks
- Nearby Estuary walk and historical tree milling site
Te Rere Yellow-eyed penguin Reserve
- 67 Hectares
- Coastal Forest owned by Forest and Bird-Southland and Otago
- Oldest protection area for Yellow-eyed penguins in NZ
- 1981: Southland Forest and Bird obtained consent from the farmer who owned the land to fence off a small section to protect the penguins
- 1988: After farm was bought by another farmer, Forest and Bird purchased 60 hectares of area; run by Fergus Sutherland
- 1995: fire spread from nearby farm onto the reserve, killing up to 60 penguins and wiping out two-thirds local coastal, podocarp forest
- 1998: replanting of local vegetation and pest management begins and continues to this day
- over 8000 trees and shrubs have been planted over the past 20 years, with 1 big planting day every year
Otanomomo Tuatiki Reserve
- Pond, shrub swamp, podocarp hardwood forest
- 5 hectares
- Only remnant coastal broadleaf podocarp forest in Otago Land District
- Ongoing program by DOC and Forest and Bird to eliminate invasive and/or introduced species of plants and animals and replant native foliage. Species include
